Reiki
Reiki is a noninvasive energy work that allows healing energy to flow through the body. It helps with relaxation and reduces anxiety/stress, pain, and depression. The practitioner uses their hands to help deliver and guide energy through the person or animal's body, which helps improve the flow of energy to help the body heal. Alya has found that starting with reiki before the massage and bodywork allows the horse to relax more and aids in even more releasing for them.
Reiki benefits include:
- Reduces stress, tension, and anxiety
- Promotes relaxation
- Relieves depression
- Relieves fatigue
- Boosts energy and mood
- Enhances equality of life
- Relieves pain and accelerates the body's self-healing abilities
- Balances energy and chakras
- Aids in better sleep
- Supports the immune system
- Supports emotional clearing
Equine Postural Bodywork
Equine postural bodywork gets to the root of dysfunction by allowing the horse to regain correct posture and proprioception. Just like humans, horses develop compensatory patterns to shield themselves from pain and discomfort. Over time, these compensations pull the skeletal system out of alignment, leading to physical issues like lameness, lack of impulsion, or a collapsed thoracic sling.
A vital part of my work is resetting the horse’s nervous system. When a horse is stuck in a protective "bracing" pattern, their nervous system is often trapped in a state of high alert. By prioritizing a nervous system reset, I help the horse shift out of this sympathetic "fight or flight" mode and into a state of safety. This is the essential first step; without a calm nervous system, the body cannot truly let go of the physical grips it has created for survival.
Once the nervous system is settled, we can address the physical compensations. This postural reset focuses on freeing the thoracic sling and the cervico-thoracic junction. When the thoracic sling is freed, it relieves the systemic tension and pressure that often pulls on the pelvis, limbs, and back.
The results are transformative:
Balance & Squareness: The horse becomes more balanced and organized under saddle.
Release of Bracing: It eliminates the forward-shifting weight that causes the chest to tighten and the neck, shoulders, and elbows to brace.
Visible Growth: By releasing the "emergency brake" of the psoas and thoracic sling, it is common to see the withers and back lift significantly—sometimes by as much as an inch—as the horse finally finds their true height and structural integrity.
